Bob Boyd began playing drums at the age of five and has been teaching since 1977.
He is the percussion instructor at Monmouth University, a position he has held for twelve years.
As a performer, Bob can be heard leading his own jazz trio, playing with Tim McLoone and the Shirleys, the BPM trio and many more groups.
As an original member of Holiday Express, a charity based band/volunteer organization, he has played with Bruce Springsteen, Jon Bon Jovi, and Rob Thomas.
Recent shows with Tim McLoone include Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Darlene Love and Ben E. King.
Bob can be found on many recordings. Upcoming releases include Bob Boyd, Song for Sale, the BPM trio featuring Brad Mandigo and Chris Plunkett and Joe Orlando.
Bob has studied wit the finest drummers and percussionists in the world, including Tony DeNicola (Harry James), Gordon Stout (PAS Hall of Fame), Gary Chester (studio great, Monkees, Burt Bacharach) and for many years with his close friend and Hall of Fame Legend Bernard "Pretty" Purdie.
Bob's focus as a teacher is to give students the tools necessary to develop a personal style and technique in order to become comfortable in whatever style they enjoy.
Having played in school bands throughout his youth, Bob knows the importance of music in the schools. Attention is given to material that a student my be required to perform with their school band.
Whether it's for fun as a career, drumming is a great outlet for self-expression, confidence, teamwork, and movement.
